Center for Journalism

Overview

The Center for Communications, Journalism, and Multimedia (CJAM) at John Hopkins Middle School empowers students to build real-world skills in broadcasting, print journalism, and multimedia—including photography, videography, and yearbook production—that prepare them for advanced programs and future careers. With access to modern, industry-standard equipment and technology, students bring stories to life through hands-on learning and creative expression, discovering their voices and passions in the process.

At the heart of CJAM is the award-winning J.Hop Times, featuring our televised morning show and digital publication at jhoptimes.com, which has been recognized multiple times by Weekly Reader as the most outstanding middle school newspaper. We have a fully digital broadcast studio exclusive to our magnet students, and students take the lead in designing and publishing the school yearbook. Their photography is showcased throughout the community and featured in an annual exhibit at The Studio@620, a testament to the creativity and talent fostered within the program.
